The dft ist the professional society for depth psychology-based and psychodynamic psychotherapy in Germany. For over 25 years, it has been committed to the further development of the psychodynamic approach and represents the interests of its members in politics and the public sphere. It connects practicing psychotherapists, training institutes, and academic institutions, organizes professional events, and creates opportunities for professional exchange as well as ongoing education.
Brief
As the existing visual identity no longer adequately reflected dft’s innovative position and future-oriented approach, a rebranding was intended to resolve this discrepancy and visually reposition the organization. The goal of the redesign was to develop a brand identity that combines academic expertise and psychodynamic tradition with approachability, openness, and collegial exchange. The new visual identity was intended to reflect the young and accessible self-image and specifically appeal to potential new members.
Solution
The new corporate design translates the strategic repositioning into a clear and contemporary visual identity. A fresh color palette lends the brand a more dynamic and modern look without compromising its professional and trustworthy image. The simple design language creates clarity, guidance, and high brand recognition. Steps are the central stylistic element. They symbolize development, learning, and continuous professional growth, and serve as the foundation for the layout across all media. Their form allows for multiple interpretations and evokes depth, perspective shifts, and personal as well as professional development processes — core values of psychodynamic psychotherapy. The result is a visual identity that combines scientific tradition with contemporary design and positions the dft e.V. as competent, open, and forward-looking.
